USB 3.0 kicks some serious A$$!

Electronistais reporting:

“The new peripheral format will now officially peak at 5Gbps, or about ten times faster than the 2.0 protocol. In actual tests, 25GB of data transfers in nearly 14 minutes over USB 2.0 but just 70 seconds over USB 3.0, significantly outpacing FireWire 800 as well as many hard drives.

USB 3.0 is backwards-compatible with USB 2.0 hardware but won’t work with USB 1.0 devices due to significant changes between the original format and its third generation, which comes more than ten years later.”

The rumors have begun…. arstechnica is reporting:

“Apple has been releasing updates to Leopard quite frequently as of late, with the latest being released for testing near the end of October. The latest two test builds of Mac OS X 10.5.6, 9G35 and 9G38, came just days apart last week. The rapid release of the builds, along with the fact that seed notes for build 9G38 lists ‘None’ under Known Issues, are indicators that the release is coming soon.”

Geek Speak, What is PNG?

What is PNG?

“Short for Portable Network Graphics, and pronounced ping, a new bit-mapped graphics format similar to GIF. In fact, PNG was approved as a standard by the World Wide Web consortium to replace GIF because GIF uses a patented data compression algorithm called LZW. In contrast, PNG is completely patent- and license-free.”
