iPhone at Wal-Mart on Sunday

According to Yahoo News:

FA4880AC-B4C4-4E21-9971-9E439B75B80A.jpg“Wal-Mart will start selling Apple’s popular iPhone on Sunday, the chain said, confirming earlier reports by employees.

Bentonville-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will become the second independent retail chain after Best Buy Inc. to sell the phone. It is also sold at Apple Inc. and AT&T Inc. stores.

Wal-Mart will sell the phones for $2 less than the regular price with a two-year contract: $197 for the 8-gigabyte model, or $297 for the 16-gigabyte model. Best Buy is discounting the phone by $9.

Reports that Wal-Mart would sell the phone, but not the exact launch date or the terms, surfaced early this month through store employees who had been briefed.”

The savings are minimal! Why bother?

  1. This is cool. More iPhones sales for Apple. I just hope Wal-Mart does a better job than Best Buy. What I have noticed is that these stores don’t have salespeople who know and care about Apple products. Years ago, when Apple sold Macs in these type of retail stores, you’d see Macs turned off or missing the mouse, and nobody around to ask questions to. I see a similar trend at the local Best Buy here in Maryland — basically an abandoned and neglected Mac display. Building Apple retail stores is one of the best things Apple has done. BTW, I’ve owned Macs, iPods, and iPhone since the beginning, and I love it. Apple does have amazing technology.
