BREAKING NEWS – Today Apple is FINALLY shipping the long awaited Final Cut Server. It has been a year since it was announced and I, along with countless others, are excited to see it ship.

Wal-Mart Abandons Windows DRM, Sony/BMG and Warner – As Wal-Mart switches to the MP3 music format and redesigns its music store, it leaves behind Microsoft's digital rights management technology, which prevented the songs it sold from being played on iPods. The company has also ditched Sony/BMG and Warner Music Group, for now anyway, probably due to licensing squabbles about the terms of the transition to unprotected music. Is there anyone out there using Wal-Marts music store? What do you like or dislike about it?

Amazon improves Latin Music Store – Amazon relaunched its Latin music store Friday, with video content from top artists, more bilingual product descriptions and a selection that's grown by at least 10% in less than a year. The online retailer will also shortly introduce blogs by Latin artists on their product pages, as well as partner with them for video debuts and possible event sponsorships, music category manager Craig Pape says. Check it out and let us know what you think!

RUMORS – The current MacBook and MacBook Pro designs will be retired and are expected to see “major design changes” in their next revision. The consumer MacBook line is expected to transition from plastic enclosures to aluminum and stainless steel, which are reportedly more “eco-friendly”.

Yesterday I was the fool on the hill, just another day in the life, with the internet buzz about the Beatles FINALLY coming to iTunes, a 40 million dollar deal. I should have let it be but after a hard days night sleep, today it’s reported, “Apple, labels deny Beatles deal reached” Help! What are we back in the USSR? Weekly News for March 4th

Breaking News – Nike and Apple sitting in a tree…. Years after their first “hook-up” Nike and Apple are at it again, talking with major gym equipment manufacturers to make their cardio equipment Nike + iPod compatible. That way, health club members can easily track workouts on cardio equipment like treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes and stair climbers. Personally, I don’t want my iPod storing my “lack of” equipment use…

News – MacBook Air Soars! Have you been trying to get your hands on a MacBook Air? Well, good luck! This lightweight, no DVD drive, expensive silver work of art is flying off the shelves. According to NY area Apple stores, the new Air has been sold out every day since its inaugural flight January 29th. Wow! That is surprising since there has been tons of criticism about the non-removable battery, small hard drive space and lack of a DVD drive. Even Steve Wozniak was quoted as saying: “I don’t think it’s going to be a hit.”

So Cool – Are you looking for a sweet tablet computer? Axiotron just upgraded the “modbook” line, bumping the specs to 2.1 or 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo configs with 120 or 160GB drives. The price on the base model stays the same ($2,290), but the new 2.4GHz config will run you $2,480. Touch screen, camera, built in GPS… what more could you want?

Gadget of the week – It’s good to be a Freeloader! I love natural power and here is another great alternative to that old wall socket.
Freeloader is an advanced portable charging system that can power any hand held device anywhere, anytime. Freeloader takes power from its solar panels or via a supplied charge cable that plugs into a computers’ USB. Once charged, Freeloaders internal battery can power an iPod for 18 hours, a mobile phone for 44 hours, PSP for 2.5 hours, a PDA for 22 hours and much, much more. And for those female “geeks” out there it is available in HOT pink. Now that is power on the go!

“Hey, I can't watch my favorite lip sync video on YouTube, what gives?” Blame it on Pakistan. "A religious state, Pakistan, identifies a content provider, YouTube, as the source of blasphemous, seditious content and orders, that the Internet tides be stopped." No problem….Youtube is back for all of us that love blasphemy! Speaking of YouTube, here is a 3 year old little girl explaining Star Wars.

Breaking News – Today Apple introduced a new 2GB iPod Shuffle for $69 and lowered the price of its original, which is now 1GB, to $49!

– It's official, the format war is over and Blu-Ray is the winner! So now the big question is, will downloads of HD movies kill off Blu-Ray??? My opinion is no, Blu-Ray can still be used for storage and backing up your data as well as HD movies. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Move over Craigslist, there is another new Free place to sell your junk, trade, goods, cars, services, housing, jobs, and personals…Kijiji (pronounced like key-gee-gee), which means "village" in Swahili. It is a subsidiary of eBay that launched in March 2005, and unlike Craigslist, is worldwide!

Pinch me I must be dreaming… dreaming of American Idol that is….Yeah, anyway, iTunes and Fox have teamed up to bring your favorite finalist performances and songs to iTunes for your downloading pleasure. I checked it out and they even have a section of older Idol contestants like William Hung. I'm crossing my fingers for a duet with Sanjaya.

– Do you have an iPhone? If you do, the good news is that Flash is coming soon…If you don't have an iPhone, there are still whispers about a price cut! Both good news and both…..rumors.

Gadget of the week
– I first saw this gadget and thought, "so what, it's an alarm clock." Oh no, my friends, it's SO much more. Say hello to Chumby. Along with its funny name, it has Wi-Fi! Cool so far? Also, touch screen, stereo speakers, and you can receive e-mail, sports scores, listen to internet radio, surf MySpace, eBay, Facebook, flickr…should I keep going? You had me at Wi-Fi! Oh yea, it's an alarm clock, too, with snooze! So all you need is some room in your heart for a gadget with a funny name, a wireless connection, and $179.95. It comes in three different colors and I can't wait to get one!

– We all have them, in the bottom of a drawer somewhere, under the car seat, or stashed in a shoebox. I'm talking about good old-fashioned CD's. So, when you are cleaning up and find that old Milli Vanilli CD and decide you've got to get your groove on (girl you know it's true…), but realize it's all scratched up, what can you do? Simply rub toothpaste on the scratched surface with a cotton swab until the scratches have disappeared. The paste fills in the scratches so the disc can be read. It may not work for heavily scratched surfaces, but it's worth a shot and "baby, don't forget my number!" (I was lip-syncing this whole tip).

Breaking News – Apple just updated their operating system Leopard to 10.5.2. It’s a big download with some nice new features. So, go get that download! Hey, it’s free (if you have Leopard that is).Hey Photogs! Aperture 2 has just been released today for the low, low price of $199 (previously$299). Upgrades from the previous version are just $99. The updated Aperture page has all the details.

NewsYahoo says “no thank you” to Microsoft’s bid. In a statement regarding the potential merger, Microsoft said it’s “unfortunate” that Yahoo “has not embraced” its proposal to combine the two companies. Microsoft also hinted that it may take the offer directly to Yahoo’s shareholders, a move that could result in a hostile takeover. (Cue the scary music – dunt, dunt, duaaahhhh).

Yahoo is reportedly in talks with both AOL and Google to try to avoid being acquired by Microsoft.Speaking of Microsoft, since they didn’t get Yahoo it looks like they had some extra $ laying around and decided to get “more” into the mobile phone biz, so they acquired Danger Inc., maker of the technology behind T-Mobile’s Sidekick. Hmmm..can’t you just see it: Ring ring..hey, buddy, your ZUNE phone is ringing?!?!

Starbucks Corp. is teaming up with AT&T Inc. and will start offering a mix of free and paid wireless Internet service in many of its U.S. coffee shops beginning this spring. Java and Wi-Fi, just like bread and Vegemite …yum!

Netflix says bye-bye to HD-DVD. Is this the final blow for HD DVD? Netflix says that, as of now, it will purchase only Blu-ray discs and will phase out HD DVD by the end of 2008 (roughly). Now I have to find a place for my HD-DVD player in the closet next to my 8-Track tape deck.

Rumor – Did you finally get that “new” 16gb iPhone? Well, the word on the street is the price for the iPhones will drop real soon (sound familiar?) and an even newer 3G version is to be released right around the corner. Also heard at the geek cooler, Apple is holding a “special event” during the last week of February…for what? Let the guessing begin.

Gadget of the week – I love digital photography, you can snap pictures like crazy and delete the ones you don’t like. For the ones you DO like or maybe even LOVE, you want a “hard copy”. A real picture, if you will, to have and to hold, to share and to give. Well a cool new mobile digital printer is coming from the original creators of pics on the go, Polaroid.Smudge proof, 2” x 3” borderless, sticky-back prints in about 60 seconds. By USB or Bluetooth. Fun for the whole family, or just me.

Tip – got dups? To get rid of those pesky duplicate songs in iTunes, just go to the View menu and choose “Show Duplicates” then a list will appear before you, do what you will….If you have any techy, geeky, nerdy, or gadgety news, reviews, tips or tricks – Let us know and we can share them with the world. Breaking News – Today Apple updated the iPhones memory to 16GB and the iPod Touch memory to 32GB. Both are selling for $499.

News – trumps iTunes and starts to sell NBC TV shows. So was it all a big lie when Apple reported that NBC wanted to raise their ($1.99 per episode) TV show prices?

Curious that soon after, all NBC material was pulled from iTunes, but then showed up a few months later on Amazon for, get this, ten cents cheaper! ($1.89 per episode -TV Pass Price). What gives????

So it’s good news for all you fans of The Office, Heroes, House and the nerd’s favorite, Chuck. But ONLY if you are downloading to a PC. That’s right – all you MAC fans are out of luck…..or maybe not. Reviews of the service report a number of negatives including long downloads and no Mac, iPod, Apple TV or Zune compatibility. I say why bother….

So, even if you can’t get that movie from Amazon on your iPod, at least you can still rent a movie from iTunes and watch it on your trusty old video iPod…….Whatttttt, you can’t???

Wired News reports that some relatively late-model iPod owners are discovering that their devices don’t work with Apple’s newly-launched iTunes video rentals — even though those iPod models have a video playback feature. Looks like if you want to rent a movie, you have to upgrade!

What starts with a ‘Yah’ and ends with a ‘oo’ and is worth $44.6 Billion dollars? Yahoo, of course! That’s billion with a B – no wonder their commercial screams YYYYYAAAAHHHHOOOOO! According to: NEW YORK (Reuters) – Technology giant Microsoft Corp said on Friday that it had offered to acquire Internet media company Yahoo Inc for $44.6 billion in cash and stock. Look out Google, big bad Microsoft is coming to get ya – (hoo)!

Rumor – Not so fast, Mr. Gates! The rumor is: Apple, InterActiveCorp, and Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp are believed to be considering rival bids for Yahoo as well.

The Gadget of the Week – Sharing is caring. Straight from their website:miShare is a smart little gadget for sharing files and playlists between iPods. No computer or cable is needed, and it’s super easy to use. Just attach the source and target iPods and press miShare’s big button to start the transfer. It’s nice to share. 🙂

Tip – Do you have a Mac and your PC buddies keep sending you WMV files that you can’t watch? Suffer no more, my friends. Check out for a free download and now you too can watch that skateboarding dog through your Quicktime player! It also lets you play Windows media using the Safari web browser. There are a few upgrades that can be purchased if needed.
