It’s easy to forget that the Earth is mostly covered and divided up by large expanses of water. We instinctively think of the earth’s surface as forests, roads, fields and carpeting. Since you are likely to go near or on water at some point, we think you should remember to plan accordingly.

These OverBoard Waterproof Gadget Cases are 100% waterproof and float if dropped in water. They are perfect for safeguarding your gadgets (phone, camera, MP3 player) and also keep out dust, sand and dirt. The Phone/GPS Case lets you take your phone (or compact GPS) to places you wouldn’t normally dare and will protect your phone without stopping you from using it.

The Camera Case lets you take pictures down to 19ft (6m) underwater and is perfect for digital cameras without a telescopic zoom lens. The MP3 Case is a heavy duty waterproof padded MP3 case with Pro-Sports Arm Strap. Your MP3 player is fully usable when safely sealed in the case.

The overboard waterproof gadgets cases are available to buy online for $24.99 to $39.99 from ThinkGeek.

BMW M1 sports car, sweet GEEK ride!

BMW updates classic M1 sports car; drool supplies skyrocket worldwide

64BA62A6-5A0D-4802-8CFD-D073834176F1.jpg

BMW today is proudly — boastfully — showing its M1 Homage, a tribute to a legendary super-sports car that began production 30 years ago. This M1, however, is only a concept.

The M1 Homage holds remarkably firmly to the original, which had a BMW father and a Lamborghini mother (or vice versa; your call). Production of the original M1 ended in 1981 after a mediocre racing career few remember. It’s better known for accelerating people to its top end of 162 mph, and doing it with a refinement rare among sports cars.

The two best features of the new version: 1) BMW created a new color, Liquid Orange, for just this concept car — never has any hue known as “orange” been this right on a car. 2) The bestial front end. The headlights are set deeply back into the grill (there is, technically no such thing on this car). They peer out in a feral squint. All the sharp lines flow together to create a look of absolute patience. It will pounce when it can take you down with the least amount of effort.

If you believe as some do that we are witnessing the final demise of extravagant, anatomy-compensating sports cars, the M1 Homage would be a beautiful end point.

Geek Gift! Space Invaders Cutting Board

space invaders cutting board invades kitchens

Whether you’re slicing, dicing, or making julienne fries, this Space Invaders themed cutting board will help you get your Mise en Place in order.

C20550FC-9BBF-4CEF-9F7B-90B0210E97AC.jpg

As you chop your way through celery and onion, imagine your knife as a laser cannon, blasting its way through all but the most stubborn of alien invaders.

This wooden cutting board was crafted by 1337motif (great name, btw) using individual “pixels” of walnut and hard maple, and glued with FDA approved waterproof glue. The whole thing is then sealed with mineral oil and beeswax to keep the pesky alien from escaping.

The handmade board measures appx. 17.5 X 12 X 1.25″ and is available from the artist’s Etsy shop for $125. (Be sure to check out his new Zelda Tri-Force cutting board while you’re at it).

Send emails to a future date with Time Machiner

Time Machiner: Send emails to a future date

28E79BDD-A7A9-4031-AC4A-CE6918DB3403.jpg

New web service Time Machiner enables you to send emails to any recipient on any future date.

You can use the service to remind yourself of upcoming events or appointments, or you can set up happy birthday emails to friends, family members, and co-workers, in one glorious chunk of time.

And, if you time it right, you can even send emails from beyond the grave. Cue Vincent Price’s ghoulish laughter.

While we think this service has its uses, some more beneficial than others, it seems to be more of a novelty at this point. Some basic features are missing: e.g., you can’t email a group of people, formatting of any kind (except for line breaks) is disallowed, you can’t add attachments, etc…

Besides, for events such as birthdays, wouldn’t it be easier to set reminders in a calendar application? If you’re averse to calendar apps, they even have calendars that are made out of real paper and hang on walls.

The most beneficial use of Time Machiner is the ability to send present advice to your future self. Maybe you’ve had an epiphany, and would like to make sure you don’t forget it. That’s where Time Machiner can really shine.

So what would your epiphany be, dear reader?
