WordPress coming soon to iPhone Apps!

wp pic.jpgThe word is spreading fast about the New iPhone App from WordPress. According to the worpress blog, they are getting very close with this post – “Just a quick update that we’ve successfully uploaded the app to the iTunes Store, and the status message “In Review” indicates that the Apple team is conducting their testing procedures. We have not been provided with an ETA — so it could get approved at any time.”

There are already 41 positive comments and I too can’t wait for this much anticipated App to get approved!

A Review of Facebook app for iPhone

Apple Gazette – Facebook for iPhone – Review

I’m a fairly casual user of Facebook. I don’t spend just huge amounts of time on it…just long enough to get on, see what my friends are up to, and go on about my business. So, for me, the brilliant Facebook webapp was absolutely perfect. Simple to navigate, pretty well loaded with features, it was exactly what I needed to satiate my social networking fix. With the web app, I had access to virtually anything I could do on Facebook. The native app, however, takes huge steps backward in the way of functionality.

Gone is the ability to write on walls. Gone is the ability to look at users’ photos. Gone is ability to look at any interests, events, or personal information whatsoever. There is the ability to take a picture and upload it directly, but shouldn’t you be able to choose from pics that are already in your Camera Roll as well? One positive note, though…Facebook chat is an added feature. I don’t use it regularly, and I really feel like any IM app won’t be worthwhile until push goes live for developers in a couple of months. But to each his own.

All in all, the Facebook app is a surprisingly crippled venture from a company that released what was (and is) one of the best iPhone webapps around. Unless you’re jonesing to use Chat, there’s no reason to download this until it’s vastly improved.

Turn-by-turn Navigation for iPhone coming….

TeleNav: turn-by-turn Navigation for iPhone coming
Picture 8.png
TeleNav Software says it’s developing turn-by-turn voice navigation software for the iPhone 3G, according to TWICE, The industry newspaper says the move comes despite a clause in Apple’s contract with iPhone Developers that prohibits sophisticated navigation features. The iPhone 3G has a built-in GPS, but offers only on-screen maps and text directions.
TeleNav wouldn’t say whether it received special permission to produce the software, but industry analyst John Martin told TWICE that Apple executives can always make “special dispensations for any company they choose.” Adding complete navigation features to the iPhone could negatively impact sales of conventional GPS devices, which don’t offer internet or voice connectivity. According to the report, TeleNav has not said when the new software will be ready, but it is expected to provide voice-driven, turn-by-turn directions and limited traffic and detour information.

Apple needs more iPhone fanfare? Keeps iPhone App developers quiet!

Apple’s Not So Secret Army

6E8AEE7B-5F6E-471E-B115-68F780452489.jpg
Note to the CIA: Mike Ghaffary might make an excellent secret agent. There might be things that his company Stitcher is not supposed to tell you about Apple’s new iPhone Apps Store. Ghaffary, however, claims he doesn’t know what those things are.

It’s unclear whether Apple (nasdaq: AAPL – news – people ) has put a gag order on application developers like Stitcher, or if everyone is genuinely confused about the apps the computer giant will distribute for its iPhone and iPod Touch at its new Apps Store inside iTunes. Like many developers scrambling to build applications for the device, Ghaffary, vice president of business development at Stitcher, says all he knows is that Apple will start making apps available sometime in early July, around the time the company launches its new 3G iPhone. Apple didn’t respond to requests seeking confirmation of its plans.

There’s a method, however, to Apple’s mysterious ways. “They are masters of building the buzz,” says Ghaffary, whose company’s applications dish up information-packed audio content such as news and sports.

Faced with a crush of media interest in the run-up to the new iPhone’s launch July 11, some developers are talking to reporters, but they’re begging off discussing specifics. Touchy topics span the technical details of their applications to the feedback they received from Apple.

Several developers have reported that Apple contacted them with warnings after they posted online videos demonstrating their applications.

Other developers are actively pitching journalists. Ghaffary may not be able to tell you the App Store’s launch date, but he’s happy to discuss his company’s iPhone application in detail.
